Tess Carmina

Internationally Published Tattoo Model From Belgium

Tess Carmina is an internationally published tattoo model and host on tattoo events. For MediaZink she is also a model for 2020, which made her our poster girl. She’s working as a freelance tattoo model and thanks to this her photos were published several times in international tattoo magazines like Tatouage Magazine, Tattoo Erotica, or Central City Ink Magazine.

As a host, she conducts the event during Ink Mania, Cezanne Tattoo Convention, or Bo-Way Ink. What’s more she does fashion shows on events like The International Brussels Tattoo Convention, The Great British Tattoo Show, and Cork Tattoo Expo. Something worth showing off is also her being a model for the Official Sullen Angel and H2Ocean.

Tess Carmina lives in Belgium but speaks 3 languages: Dutch, English, and French, which allows her to smoothly conduct tattoo conventions on the stage.

Tess, I’ve had the opportunity to work with you more than once. Every time you make a great impression as a model, a woman and just a person. Everyone can admire not only your appearance but also commitment to everything you do, which is why everyone can see that you really like what you do. When did you understand that you would like to become a model?

Thank you so much for these kind words. Whenever I got more tattoos, people seemed to be more and more interested in taking my pictures. It’s actually something that happened, I did not really plan it out. Turned out I loved being in front of the camera and that’s that! 🙂

What was first – the desire to be a model or the desire to tattoo the whole body?

Being in the metal music scene for so long, I was used to seeing tattoos. Everyone was his or her own original self. I loved that, I wanted to be original and as colorful as possible. I got my first tattoo at 19yo. Thanks to getting more tattoos, I got modelling job offers which I accepted. So the desire to tattoo my whole body was first.

Which of all your tattoos do you like best? Please describe it to us and tell who made it. Is there any interesting story involved?

My favourite tattoo now is my entire backpiece. A lot of dedication and pain but I am so happy it is finally finished after roughly 45 hours of tattooing. It was done by the amazing Willem Janssen from Vault 13 in the Netherlands (@willemxsm on instagram). My backpiece actually portrays the story of The Marauders from the Harry Potter series. The Marauders were a group of four classmates (Remus Lupin, James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew) who developed a very strong friendship throughout their years at Hogwarts.

Remus Lupin was a werewolf, and to aid their precious friend during his painful transformations, the others became animagi (wizards who can transform when they want in an animal form). James Potter‘s Animagus form was a shining red stag (Prongs), Sirius Black‘s was a shaggy black dog (Padfoot), and Peter Pettigrew‘s was a fat grey rat (Wormtail). These animals you will see on my back. It’s a story about the importance of friendship, doing the right thing and unconditional love.

What are your dreams as a model? What brands would you like to cooperate with, with which models would you like to pose for photos and for who? I mean a photographer in the last question.

I have been a model for 10 years now, I am very thankful to have worked with some amazing photographers. I would definitely want to shoot again with you Kamila, Creative Instincts and Matthew Bennet from the UK, you are my favourites and always create killer pictures. Also I would like to expand my hosting career to another continent and do conventions in Asia. Additionally, My dreams in the tattoo industry have changed a little, and since the end of last year I learned how to draw and I have become very passionate about it. I would love to become a tattoo artist and I have started my apprenticeship very recently… To be continued 🙂

You’ve been to many tattoo conventions around the world. Do you have any of your favorite events? What makes you like to go to tattoo events or work there?

Of course, I love the atmosphere, meeting new people, and discovering talented artists. I admire how everyone comes together on an event to celebrate the art of tattoos: models, artists, photographers, clients, even their parents… The list is endless and that’s what makes it beautiful! I definitely have my favourites: I really loved the Tattoo Konwent event in Poland and the Deauville Tattoo Festival in France is also one of my all-time favourites.

What do you like most about being a model and a host?

Having fun, travelling, meeting new people, getting tattooed, getting published in magazines… and so on! If you love your job you will never work a day in your life!
