Clayton Dias

How long have you been tattooing and how did you start your tattooing journey?

I’ve been tattooing for 20 years. I started tattooing with a friend. Back then, we didn’t have much access to materials, but we still tried to make a tattoo with needles, machines and homemade paints. Today I am here for 20 years.

Do you remember what was the first tattoo you did? If so, tell us what it was and for who.

The first tattoo I did on myself. It didn’t come out very well as I didn’t have the right materials but it was a really fun experience.

Please, tell us about your current tattoo style and how it has changed over the years.

My tattoo style today is full of colors. This style is new in Brazil but very popular in the world. Nowadays, the fullness of colors is growing because we have more colorful and very effective works.

Does anyone or anything inspire you?

Today I have great inspiration in various artists around the world. Mainly with the great masters of painting. Among others, Michelangelo, Salvador Dalí, Picasso, Van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci. They are masters whom I admire very much. There are too many artists in the tattoo world to name.

Are there any tattoo artists who are extremely admirable to you? If so who?

Yes, I have many artists such as for example: Led Coult, Dave Paulo, Boris, Ad Pacho, Jay Freestyle, Michael Dgostini, Duda Losano, Pedro Muller, Sergio Rodrigues, Arthur MFO, Ricardo Silva, Sylvio Freitas, Ubiratan Amorim, Tony Santos, Diego Ferrink.

Do you have any memorable tattoo story or a customer that has stuck with you through all the time you have been tattooing?

Yes, I have some. Every job I create is tattoos that are very important to every client. But the work that caught my attention was done for a client who lost his family members and I made for him a tattoo to symbolize his family. It was very rewarding.

Is there any art form that fascinates you also except tattooing? Maybe do you have any other passion or something that you really enjoy doing?

I like all kinds of art, from this painting to sculpture, because each art is a unique form of expression, each artist communicates his art with great love and respect. I believe every art has a purpose in the world.

Do you like visiting or exhibiting at tattoo conventions? Would you recommend any of them?

Yes, I like the convention a lot. I have been to more than 100 conventions around the world. It is very gratifying to be meeting with great artists from the tattoo world. I am the organizer of @artdaytattoo – it is a great event that I do with great pleasure together with my friend Willy Álvares Anna and Rocelito that aims to expose art to the world.

Any artist you planning to get tattooed by? Who has tattooed you already?

Among them, there are a few artists with whom I would like to tattoo, including Ad Pacho, Dave Paulo, S hegue Yellow Blake …

What are your plans and dreams? If you think about yourself in 10 years, what do you see?

I want to evolve my work more and more, be a great artist and travel, showing my art to different tribes around the world. In 10 years, I want to be recognizable for my work and raise the level of my art to the world.
