Soldiers; Inked Up And Ready To Serve:

Before going into this article about soldiers and tattoos, we would first like to explain something. This article will partly review a book published solely in Denmark, about the Danish Royal Guard and their tattoos. As well as an article talking more broadly about soldiers with tattoos.

But it seems to go without saying, that in most nations of the world, at least the western world, you see a lot of tattoos now a days. We are not going to discuss whether that is right or wrong here, we leave that to you our fans.
However, military tattoos seem to be something special, often speaking of a kind o bond you can’t find anywhere else.

A lot of the men and women who have served in a military capacity of one kind or other, have felt very strongly about it. Many of these people, will never forget there time spent serving the military etc. No matter if they make a long career of it or just serve for a short time as a draftee.

Marked for Life/Mærket for Livet:

The book mentioned in the above sub-heading, is a book that tries to cast a light on these special bonds, showcased in the ink of soldiers. The book sadly has only been published in Denmark and in Danish, but there might very well be similar books out there, from other countries.

But this book follows and focuses on the Danish Royal Guard and there tattoos. Both displaying them visually with beautifully taken pictures, as well as telling the soldiers stories. Many of these stories talk of the one of a kind bond, you get with the people you serve with. With the people you fight for life and death together with, live with, eat with, hang out with and more.

Whether the tattoos commemorate the time served in the military, specific events they felt shaped who they are, or indeed a fallen comrade. All of these tattoos speak of a bond and experience these people will never forget. The tattoos even in cases help them deal with traumatic experiences and give them confidence to move on, so to speak.

Final Comments:

Even without the book which was published in 2013 and written by Jan Grarup, you could easily agree that military tattoos are something special. It quickly becomes clear, why these people have chosen to immortalize their military experiences, good or bad, on their skin. So please support your troops and their right to be inked.

We have not shown many pictures in this article, as military tattoos are quite special and personal. But we hope you still enjoyed the article.
