Queer Tattooing; The New “Punk” Tattoo Movement:

Queer tattooing is becoming more and more well known in the public. This new branch of the tattoo community, has been making their voices more and more heard in the past couple of years, with a clear message. Tattoos aren’t just ink on skin and people aren’t just another canvas. Their tattoos are all about expressing the individual and their story, showing off the cultures and identities they feel are being silenced in the main stream.

Another part of the movement, as seen in statements from the artists who are a part of it. Is that they do not feel the normal tattoo artist, do enough to stand up for difference. Some even believe normal tattoo artists are part of a problem. A problem of sexism, homophobia and the like. So they are trying to create a branch in the tattoo world, for the queer and the different. Where everyone can express themselves, without subscribing to “traditional” tattoo values.

To some extent this movement has a good point, but perhaps they are being a bit aggressive towards what they deem “conformist tattooing”. All tattoos today are self-expression, at least we think so. So we can at least all agree on that. But we do not want to get too into it here, so let us know what you guys think of this movement and what you have heard?
