VANIR is a danish band, who like other Scandinavian bands, is influenced by the viking culture and heritage… And that already sounds good to me.. 😎
The music is, in my ears sounds like a Thrash/Death style, with a hint of Black metal.. I think they are labeled as a Folk /Black metal, but all these categories sometime confuse me more than they help… It’s Thrash with grovling… 🤟😜
They have 4 albums behind them and a new one “Allfather” out today.. And I can definitely hear them evolving into a tighter and better band through the albums, with a distinctive sound and style, that people who have interest in the Nordic mythology and history, wrapped in a Metal package, definitely will embrace…
But let see what their label, Mighty Music, have to say about them :
Since the formation of the band in 2009 Vanir have released four full-length albums and is now ready to launch their 5th album ‘Allfather’ through Mighty Music in early 2019.
There is no doubt, that Vanir is the greatest Viking-metal act coming out of Denmark, with a discography that ranges from folk to death / black-metal influenced Viking metal.
With ‘Allfather’, Vanir have once again created a melodic death / black metal experience with a sharp focus on melody and brutal riffs, which should appeal to all fans of Amon Amarth, Immortal, Ensiferum, etc.
The themes in the band’s texts are found in the Nordic mythology and historical interpretations of ancient tyrants and army leaders. And is sung in both Danish and English. From Valhalla’s Hall to the Germanic battlefields, Vanir’s music has become a uncompromising fusion of fascination with our common origin, and the blood spilled through history in in a heavy and melodic sound image. ‘Allfather’ is a celebration of the old Danish king Svend Tveskæg.
Vanir has in recent years focused on the Nordic countries as well as Germany and has played over 150 shows in Norway, Sweden, Germany and Denmark. In addition, the band has performed at a number of festivals including Hörnerfest, Boarstream Open Air, Barther Metal Open Air, Copenhell, Aalborg Metal Festival to name some of them.
The band has received great praise for its energetic live performance.
2019 will be the year of Vanir with the release of ‘Allfather’ on February 15th through Mighty Music.

Last words: Having only heard the whole album today, I must say that I think that this is a great album, and probably also their way into the big league of the genre, with bands like Amon Amarth, Amorphis and the likes of this.. The single “Fejd” have been out on Spotify and a video for it on YouTube, and that is very cool, including my old friend, from Iron Fire, Martin Steene, who helps out on this track… 🤟😎
But as i said, the new album is out today, 15/2, so go check it out..
Remember to have a great weekend with some viking metal..
