Little Kaja; Nothing Small About Her Talent:

Little Kaja might not have been in the business of tattooing for too long, at least not compared to many other artists we review. But she is one of the newcomers, who are showing the world just how quick talent can develop. Her style is incredible and when we ran into her at the Scottish Tattoo Convention this year, we noticed how no one could help but stop and admire this young woman’s tattoo artistry. The colors seem to shine with life and the eyes almost seem to follow you, yet she adds a quirky and playful twist to her awesome tattoo style, which is reminiscent of both Neo-traditional and new-school tattooing.

The Interview:

1. Where are you from? What age are you? and how long have you been tattooing for?

I’m originally from Slovenia but have lived in Scotland for the past 8 years. I’m 26 years old and have been tattooing “professionally” for 2 years or 4 years with all the apprenticeships combined 🙂

2. The name of your current studio and where is it located?

I currently work at FHT in Bathgate and Red Hot and Blue in Edinburgh.

3. How would you describe your style of tattooing/the style of your tattoos?

I guess people call what I do neotraditional, so I’ll go with that. But I love tattooing other styles as well. Whatever makes clients happy style 🙂

4. What is it you love about that style?

There’s so much to love. Like I love heavy line work combined with smooth shading or just solid colour. Also the movement and fluency of the design and dynamics between the main character and the surrounding objects. Love a good neotrad lady head design ❀.

Neotraditional is now so big and so popular that there’s so many different variations of this style. And I love them all. Shows that people are trying to create something new and exciting.

5. What is your favourite thing about being a tattoo artist?

Meeting and tattooing so many new and interesting people in everyday Scotland and around the world. It’s never a dull moment in this job.

6. What got you into tattooing?

I’ve always drawn. And since I’ve been little I’ve wanted to become an illustrator or animator. But I found the art of tattooing in a local tattoo and piercing shop in Slovenia when I was a teen and fell in love with the craft.

I’ve graduated from Visual communication at Robert Gordon university in Aberdeen, Scotland but soon discovered that being stuck in an office surrounded with computers did not make me happy. That’s when I pursued tattooing. And I could not be happier with my decision.

7. What inspires your tattoos(and art) the most?

Personally myths and legends. I love the history and the heritage of the stories from all around the world.

8. What is your favourite tattoo you have ever done or seen?

I have a few favourites. Like two portraits of my customers dogs wearing fancy attire. Or every lady head I’ve done as I love doing them.

9. Do you have a dream tattoo, that you want to do on someone in the future?

I always wanted to do a “whore of Babylon ” inspired sleeve or back piece. The whole symbolism about this goddess that’s portrayed in the Bible as the Antichrist is so fascinating to me.

10. Do you have any future plans, you would like your fans and the readers at Mediazink, to know about?

Every year I will be doing guest spots around Europe so hopefully after the Copenhagen tattoo convention I’ll do a couple in Denmark. I have been in Denmark before and I’d love to do some cool tattoos in the future there as it’s a cool country 😉

Final Comment and Gallery:

Little Kaja tried to find her happiness in tattooing, after growing bored with the prospects of mundane office life. Luckily for her and all the people who get to wear her awesome art, she succeeded and found a life as a tattoo artist, that inspires her and keeps her excited. It is clear to see in her work, that she loves using her imagination, to make her clients ideas come to life, in the most vivid and colorful way possible. Her work is truly beautiful and we can’t wait to see what she gets up to in Copenhagen (home turf of MediaZink) and we will see her at 50 Shades of Ink Copenhagen 2018.
