“A Tattoo To Change Your Life”; Brilliant Series by the BBC:

A Tattoo to Change Your Life“, is a brilliant series launched on BBC 3 in the UK this year. In the series we follow several different individuals, who have been through various traumatic experiences. These experiences range from going through depression, to acne scarring and surviving a plane crash. All of these experiences, have caused their victims quite a bit of stress and loss of self.

But that is something they aim to change with the help of tattooing. We have talked about the therapeutic effects of tattooing before, here on MediaZink. In this series you actually get to follow individuals, all the way through the process. From planning the tattoo, connecting it’s meaning to them and their trauma, and how it helps them afterwards.

For example we have Jen, a young woman in her late 20’s. Becuase of a depression she gained a lot of weight  through comfort eating. She later on lost a lot of that weight again. But she was left with stretchmarks on her body, which left her sad, because it reminded her of the bad past. Then she went to the tattoo artist Poppy Segger (whom is foticed on the featured image, and is the main character of the show), who designed a beatiful tattoo for her, to cover it up. A tattoo which Jen has later claimed, helped her look at her body and body-image, much more positively ever since. Helping her stay happier and move on.

Final Comment:

We think that a series such as “A Tattoo to Change Your Life”, might be something that should be made in other countries as well. While we may get tired of all the constant fire being thrown on the feelings pyre, in old tattoo shows like Miami Ink and LA Ink. Here it is a show exactly about the recipient of the tattoo and their story.

It doesn’t seem forced into it, and it gives other people watching, an insight into how tattoos are not just decorations. To a lot of people, no matter the size of their trauma, or their disconnect with their body-image. It will help them feel more like themselves and regain some positivity. It is quite the cool show and hopefully a lot of people saw it and wil see it.
